LIFT is a nonprofit organization that works to lift people out of poverty for good. We take a people-powered approach to fighting poverty: A network of Members, Advocates and Advisors work together to build the strong personal, social and financial foundations people need to get ahead.

We have resource centers in neighborhoods across the country, where trained volunteers work with our Members to find a job, a safe home or a good education for themselves and their kids. By setting their own goals and working hard to achieve them, our Members also build a support network, confidence in what they bring to the table and the skills to manage tough times in the future.

LIFT members and advocates work one-on-one to find jobs, secure safe and stable housing, make ends meet through public benefits and tax credits, and obtain quality referrals for services like childcare and healthcare. As a result, the LIFT experience pushes advocates to grapple with our country’s most challenging issues related to poverty, race, inequality, and policy. Since LIFT’s founding in 1998, over 10,000 volunteer advocates have served more than 60,000 individuals and families.

Become an Advocate and help revolutionize the way we work with people striving to get ahead—giving people across the country the opportunity to build the personal, social and financial foundations they need to change their lives and lift themselves out of poverty for good. Currently LIFT has offices in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C.
