CAPUP strengthens communities by providing resources for people to help themselves. Interns will become familiar with all programs administered by CAPUP, including Virginia CARES, Employment Services, Child Care Food Program, and Emergency Services Program.

Community action changes people’s lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities, and makes America a better place to live. We care about the entire community, and we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other.

Capital Area Partnership Uplifting People, Inc. (CAPUP) is a private non-profit agency that was established under the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 to combat problems associated with poverty in the Richmond metropolitan area. CAPUP serves two primary functions: (1) to act as a bridge between the poverty areas of surrounding cities and counties and the various social service agencies; and (2) it develops and implements innovative projects to meet the needs of the impoverished.
